Established in 2019 with grants from Adams County Open Space and LiveWell HEAL Cities and Towns, the garden was designed in collaboration with the Bennett School District FFA. Their research helped shape the current layout, featuring 12 raised garden beds with spacious walkways.
A community tree mural by local artist Christopher Deaver is also displayed in the garden. This artwork includes community contributions collected during Bennett Days and Trunk-or-Treat events.
The Bennett Community Garden is located at the Civic Center Complex near Town Hall.
The garden is designed for community participation. Neighbors of all ages and backgrounds are encouraged to take part in gardening, maintenance and beautification efforts.
March: Garden bed sign-ups open (first-come, first-served; one bed per applicant).
Planting can begin anytime, weather permitting. A hose is provided by the Town.
May: If beds remain unclaimed, gardeners may apply for additional plots.
November: Garden beds must be cleared. Any unclear beds will be cleaned by the Town.
The annual application and waiver must be submitted to the Town of Bennett.
Donations help cover maintenance costs, including water, compost, mulch and infrastructure.
By participating, gardeners agree to:
- Volunteer for community tasks (weeding, maintaining shared areas, caring for tools, etc.).
- Maintain common areas, fencing, trash bins, compost bins, and water lines.
- Clear their plots at the end of the season (by November 1).
- Conduct themselves respectfully—theft, offensive behavior, and misconduct will result in the loss of gardening privileges.
- Return plots to the Town if relinquished or revoked.
- The Town of Bennett does not discriminate based on race, ethnicity, religion, gender, disability, military status, or other protected characteristics in garden participation and administration.
