Building Permits

The Town uses an online portal for building permits. You must first create an account. If you are an existing contractor, please email bennettbuilding [at] bennett.co.us (bennettbuilding[at]bennett[dot]co[dot]us) to obtain an access code, this will allow you to link your existing license and permits to your portal.

The Building Department can only accept PDF file format for Plan Review.

Many construction projects require a permit. If you have questions about if you need a permit you can download the handout below, watch this video, or contact the building department at bennettbuilding [at] bennett.co.us (bennettbuilding[at]bennett[dot]co[dot]us) or 303-644-3249 ext. 1032.

Once a permit has been issued, work may commence. The issued permit card, and any stamped, approved plans must always be printed and available on site when work is being done. Failure to obtain a permit prior to beginning work will result in the permit fees doubling.

Access the portal at: https://twn-bennett-co.smartgovcommunity.com/Public/Home
Select Sign Up in the upper right corner or Log In if an account has already been created.
Go to My Portal > Apply Online. If picking up an application that was already started, select My Portal > My Applications and select the correct application.
Select the type and subtype of permit application needed. Provide the site address for the project.
Click through each section of the application and provide the required information. Each section will indicate Done and a check mark when the required information has been provided. Any section marked Not Complete with a red encircled “i” still requires information or an uploaded document to complete the section.
Once the application is completed, select Submit Application at the bottom of the screen. Note: The application will not be received by the Building Department unless the required sections are filled and the Submit Application action is completed.
Monitor the status of the application and provide additional information or any plan review fees as required and communicated by the Building Department. Additional fees will become payable as the application is reviewed and approved.
Once the permit is issued, obtain the permit and inspection cards from the Building Department to be available on the project site. Follow any direction for plans that must be printed and on the work site as well.

Please see the Town of Bennett Schedule of Fees for typical fees associated with obtaining a building permit from the Town of Bennett. Please note, however, each project is specific and final fees are not determined until a complete building permit application has been submitted and reviewed by Town staff.

Typical Fees Associated With Building Permits

Building Permit Fee which is based on the total valuation of the project.

Plan Review Fee which is based on the total valuation of the project.

2% Use Tax which is calculated based on half of the total valuation of the project.

0.25% Arapahoe County open space sales & use tax which is calculated based on half of the total valuation for the projects within Arapahoe County.
