A Certificate of Occupancy (CO) is required before any new residential or commercial building in the Town of Bennett can be legally used. This final approval confirms that construction was completed according to approved plans, all required inspections have passed, and the structure meets zoning, building, safety, and health standards.
To request a CO, applicants must submit all required documentation, including the final Improvement Location Certificate (with grading and drainage), inspection card with all final inspections signed off, and any outstanding fees. Commercial projects also require additional approvals from the Fire Department, Engineering, Planning, and confirmation of a valid business license.
Once submitted, residential CO requests may take up to 48 business hours to process, while commercial COs may take up to 72 business hours. The property may not be occupied until the CO is approved and issued.
